To chime in the new release of Valerie & Friends, British DJ/producer Russ Chimes heads down under on a national tour (of the same name) in August.
Blending eighties synth hooks with lush composition, Russ Chimes is sure to set the mood on the dance floor. Enjoying significant blog attention for his own tracks including ‘Daytona’ featured on the Valerie & Friends LP, Chimes has also knocked out stellar remixes for the likes of Sam Sparro, Chromeo, The Golden Filter and Heads We Dance as well as Frankmusik (Confusion Girl) recently touted as Alex Metric’s current favourite track on Pete Tong’s BBC1 radio show (12/06/09).
Don’t miss Russ Chimes as he celebrates the release of French retro-futuristic brat pack’s LP, Valerie & Friends.

The woman that Amy Winehouse sings about? A French artist collective? A blog? Or all three …
WHO ARE VALERIE?
VALERIE consists of a group of like-minded musicians from Nantes, France, who run a blog founded and run by Collage. Their members: ANORAAK, COLLEGE, MAETHELVIN, MINITEL ROSE, THE OUTRUNNERS, and RUSS CHIMES. Each artist develop its own thing, follows his own path as Valerie sees itself as a free creative platform and not a label. Together and separately, they pay homage to the dreamier aspects of eighties music, digging up forgotten synth-pop classics, and making a few new ones themselves. They combine the streetwise edge of Ed Banger with the nü-disco stylings of Institubes and the classic production values of the first wave of ‘French touch.’
WHO ARE VALERIE’S FRIENDS?
VALERIE have been running their blog for over two years, the aim here is not to find the latest unreleased track from the latest hype, but to bring into the light musicians who share the same artistic vision and define the boundaries of a new emerging scene. During that time, Valerie has helped expose new music from exciting artists such as DVAS, FUTURECOP!, JUPITER, LOOSE SHUS, NARCTRAX, and STEVE MOORE. Whilst these artists are not part of VALERIE, they’ve helped make VALERIE the tastemakers they are today.
WHAT DO THEY SOUND LIKE?
Like JOHN CARPENTER on a disco rampage, setting his monsters onto unsuspecting dancefloors. Like TANGERINE DREAM with an electro twist to get the kids dancing. Like M83 stripped of feedback and shoegaze pretension. Like ALAN BRAXE & FRED FALKE with a nasty twist. Like the soundtrack to every so-bad-it’s-good eighties teen movie you ever saw, only better …
GET TO KNOW VALERIE
You can get to know VALERIE through their blog, http://valeriecherie.blogspot.com.
VALERIE AND FRIENDS, the collective’s first compilation, is released on ESR and BANDROOM RECORDS on MAY 29, 2009.
This compilation features exclusive tracks from all the official members of the crew as well as a selection of guest artists from around the world who they have met and befriended along the way.
Right here we’ve got the brand new Pomomofo video clip for Tamagotchi Girl, directed by animator extraordinaire, Dave Carter. The clip is all in 25 frame per second, handmade, stop go animation (think early South Park) and exclusively uses body parts and random cut-outs from old Russian magazines. Making what you could call playscale Frankensteins.
To say the least, it makes a pretty damn odd and pretty damn cool effect, one that perfectly matches the Pomomofo aesthetic of off beat, geeked out dance music.

Tamagotchi Girl was taken from the In Super VGA E.P.
Further updates on the band will be coming very soon.
Check out this clip from MSTRKRFT’s South By South West show that some of our buddies over at One Love filmed. At the Dim Mak party cops with riot gear and horses (!) shut down their show when the crowd was way beyond the venue’s capacity. Prompting the crowd to almost cause a riot while chanting “Fuck The Police”!!!
Crazy.
This is just about the 1,000,000th reason that I should have gone to SXSW this year…….
Can’t you just picture this happening at a Walter Meego show???
Amsterdam artist / producer / remixer extraordinaire Don Diablo has just handed us his mix of Girls and the results are outstanding! His own post of the track on YouTube has had over 2,500 hits while ours has only had a (comparatively) measly 1,000. Lets start the second not-so-inaugural Bandroom competition and see who can click on our video the most to push its hits way above his! The winner gets a digital smile*!
All of us men wish we cloud have this effect on women: that we could walk past them and due to our ungodly attractiveness, cunning wit and the fact that we’re cool like Lou Reed was in the seventies that they would be swept away forever in gails of wind, lust and genuine admiration. But only two men have ever been capable of living that dream: Colin Yarck & Justin Sconza, or the guys from Walter Meego.
The two of them practically can’t even walk down a street without causing a ruckus. But if you can’t take my word for it and you need proof check out the new video for their latest single “Girls” just below.
In anticipation of Anoraak & College’s upcoming Australian tour, both Bandroom Records and One Love are offering 2 double passes to see Anoraak and College in any of the One Love clubs throughout Australia, whether thats in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide.
All you need to do is tell us what song deserved to make it into Triple J’s Hottest 100 this year. Points will be awarded for creativity, humour and making us feel better because we couldn’t nudge Sex On Fire from the top spot. E-mail info@bandroomrecords.com.au with your answers before Thursday the fifth of February and you will be in the draw to win.
Also, just for the sake of proliferating the spread of quality music, here’s the BMX Remix of Anoraaks’ “Nightdrive With You”. Big Stereo has already called it part of a “soundtrack for endless summers and first loves” and we couldn’t agree more.
Nightdrive With You - BMX Remix
Full tour dates:
13/02/09 - Electric Circus / Adelaide
14/02/09 - Prince Bandroom / Melbourne

So it’s that time of year again, Triple J’s Hottest 100 is in full gear and all of our releases ever (Bandroom was conceived in ‘08) are eligible to be voted to appear in the final top 100. You personally have the ability to bring the electro glory of Walter Meego, the wolf might of Pomomofo, the elegance of Booka Shade or the disco goodness of Midfield General to the Hottest 100! Its simple: just tell all your friends to vote the maximum ten times for each of our artists (remind them that they can also nominate any artist not on the shortlist) and wait for the results to come in on Australia Day!
